Ingredients
1 can (16 oz.) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 medium yellow onion, diced
3 large garlic cloves
1 large egg
1 Tbsp (15 mL) ground cumin
1 Tbsp (15 mL) chili powder
1 tsp (5 mL) hot sauce (BBQ, piri-piri, or your fave)
1/2 cup (125 mL) bread crumbs
Four ciabatta buns and butter
Directions
- Preheat your outdoor grill to high heat (about 450 degrees F).
- Add the beans, onion and garlic in food processor and process until smooth (there’ll be some chunks; no problem!)
- Stir together egg, chili, cumin and hot sauce in a large bowl. Mix in the bread crumbs. Add beans to the mixture and stir until the mixture is thick and holds together.
- Divide the mixture into four patties and grill for about eight minutes. Flip.
- Butter four ciabatta buns and grill for about eight minutes.
- Dress buns with favourite toppings: lettuce, tomato, mayo, additional hot sauce, etc.
