Go ahead, open the ramen noodle package. But don’t stop there.

Ingredients

  • 1 package ramen noodles

  • 1 egg

  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) soy sauce

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) roasted sesame oil

  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) butter

  • 2 Tbsp (30 mL) shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 scallion

  • 2 sheets of seaweeds, cut into bite-size pieces

  • Small handful of bean sprouts

  • Red-pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) parsley leaves

Directions

  • Boil 2 cups (500 mL) water. Add the ramen noodles, lower the heat to medium and boil for 3 minutes.
  • Shut off the heat. Add the packaged flavoring mix. Crack the egg into the nest of noodles. Add remaining ingredients, including red-pepper flakes if desired. Allow at least two minutes for egg to poach.
  • Serve hot.
