Bio

This is the part of raymondbeauchemin.com where you get to know more about me than you need to or care to know.
I’ll start off with the nutshell version. Some biographical essays follow.
I have been writing professionally since the 1980s. I have worked at newspapers in the United States, Canada and the United Arab Emirates and my work has been published in The Gazette in Montreal, The National in Abu Dhabi, Movie Entertainment magazine in Canada, Dow Jones’s marketwatch.com, both the Herald and the Sunday Globe in Boston, The Hartford Courant, The National Post in Toronto, The Scotsman, and Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture.
These articles have been reportage, essays, criticism (books, movies and music), profiles and obituaries, travel, commentary, writing about food and beer, and humor – basically a reflection of the width of my interests.
I am the author of two novels, Everything I Own (Toronto: Guernica Editions, 2013) and the Amazon-published These Days Are Nights.
have edited or co-edited three anthologies of Quebec literature: Future Tense: New English Fiction from Quebec and The Urban Wanderers Readers, both edited with Denise Roig, the author and my wife, plus 32 Degrees. I wrote Salut! The Quebec Microbrewery Beer Cookbook, which came out in 2003.
I have taught creative writing and international reporting at Concordia University in Montreal, where I received my master’s degree in English literature and creative writing in 1992.
I ran a publishing house in Montreal that published several books, including Jennifer Boire’s Little Mother, and John A. Williams’s Safari West, which won an American Book Award in 1998.
I have lived in western Massachusetts, Boston, Montreal, Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, and presently live in southern Ontario with Denise and our daughter.
